Sen. Boxer: Big oil blocking fuel economy standards
By David Edwards
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski talked with Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) blamed “the auto industry teamed up with big oil” for a lack of increased fuel economy standatds.
Boxer said that lobbying efforts funded by big oil companies and car manufacturers are responsible for blocking legislation that would increase the average miles per gallon requirements for cars sold in the U.S.
Boxer believes that technology allowing higher fuel economy standards already exists. Boxer told Joe Scarborough, “The technologies are here. I mean, I’m driving a hybrid, we get over 50 miles per gallon. They have now the plug-in hybrid which is going to get 150 gallon miles a gallon.”

America still has …
America still has no place to sequester nuclear waste, and America’s nuclear facilities are not efficient and obsolete. Nuclear plants in Europe are not as clean as they tell the press they are. Mark Thomas did a good exposed the UK’s dirty nuclear plants. Nuclear is only a quick-fix with long-lasting consequences.
The US needs solar, hydro, and wind power, which need no clean-up. If they can let oil companies get away with robbery and fight optional wars, they can have an ethical energy policy.
