Our home was built in 1986, we are replacing eight windows, all double hung, what kind of energy savings do you think we can expect?

We keep hearing from the window sales people that we will cut our utility bill in half but there is a big part of me that thinks that is just a sales ploy so I am here asking real people, what is your experience?

I replaced one large and 2 small windows in my house last summer. Live in Alaska and it gets very cold here. Reduced my oil consumption from 4 gal. a day to 2.94 gal. This with thermostat set at 68 degrees and a hot air furnace. Replaced old double pane windows with triple pane ones.
