What is the miles per gallon for a tractor trailer?
Just want to know the average miles per gallon a tractor trailer
would get. If it was loaded with about 10,000 pounds.
I do alot of "light" loads from New Jersey to Toronto. The average weight of my load is about 8000 lbs plus the weight of the tractor about 15000 lbs plus the weight of the trailer is about 15000 lbs.
I have a 2000 Volvo with a 425 hp volvo engine and a 13 speed tranny with no overdrive gear, I've got a bit of a heavy foot but I can average 7.2 mpg. Other things that can vary that besides my heavy foot are; wind, rain and cold. All of which can bring the average down.

10,000 pounds is vary light for them. They usually weigh out at near 80,000 pounds fully loaded. Can average 5 to 7 miles per gallon. If were powered with gas, it might be about 3.
For your weight range, I would guess about 12 since it is vary close to it's empty weight.
