The Federal Government has today launched its Grocery Watch website, which coincided with the ACCC Grocery Inquiry report. The website intends to help consumers find the cheapest supermarket in the area based upon ‘typical grocery baskets’. The website will update these basket of goods prices once a month.
The prices are collected from a range of supermarkets within “61 different metropolitan, regional, and rural regions across Australia”.
Approximately 500 products from 600 supermarkets are surveyed. This data is collated and made available to the public on the first business day of the following month.
The website, called GROCERYchoice, can be viewed at grocerychoice.com.au
